A specific buy box is a sourcing problem
The tighter your criteria, the worse the listed market serves you. Valorem knew exactly what they wanted to own, and the businesses that fit were not for sale anywhere. No listing, no broker, no process. Reaching those owners takes direct outreach, and doing it well is a full-time job.
Building the target universe, verifying who actually owns the company, writing emails an owner will answer. That is exactly the work deal teams don't have time for, so Valorem handed it to us.
What we built
We built the target list from scratch around Valorem's criteria: industry, geography, size, and ownership profile. Every contact verified before launch. Dedicated sending infrastructure, warmed and monitored, so the emails reach the owner instead of a spam folder.
Replies come in, we qualify them, and interested owners land in Valorem's inbox with context. Their deal team spends its time on conversations, not prospecting.
The results
Within 90 days of launch, Valorem had a hardware manufacturer under LOI. Sourced directly from the owner, no broker, no auction, no competing bidders driving up the price.
The early campaigns produced roughly 20 interested owners a month. A year in, Valorem is still a client and recently expanded the engagement with a second campaign. And when another acquirer asked for a reference, Charles didn't just take the call. He put it in writing.
“I'd strongly recommend using Zach for acquisitions. He's done an excellent job of finding what we wanted in our very specific buy box. It's a great value and well worth it, in my opinion.”
Real replies from owners
“Going to cost 6 million to buy me out.”
Business owner reply
“I would sell both my businesses if the price is right.”
Business owner reply
“Are you just interested in a sale or equity partnership?”
Business owner reply
“Thanks for reaching out. I checked out your website and what you're doing is impressive. Selling isn't necessarily on my radar right now, but I'd be open to a call to learn more.”
